So here's the chicken story.....We've been talking about it for awhile and then kinda decided really quick let's just order some chickens! Seems like a good idea right?? Well there is a lot more to it as we started learning. It was a surprise for Lucy and the boys. They had no idea. We ordered them from Tractor Supply and they actually come in the mail!! So the post office called me and said they were delivered. We drove there and I videoed Lucy. She was SO excited. As soon as we walked in the post office I could hear them....ha! We got them home and the learning began.....they were all huddled together and SO loud!!! Well they were cold. So we bought a heat lamp. Second learning curve....the box was WAY too small for 20 chickens. So we converted the plastic baby pool to their new home. We put chicken wire over the top and thought it was great for them! We thought we were rocking it until we left one day and Charlie too long and he just got too curious. He "played" with them a bit too much. Thankfully Logan got home before us that day.....it was sorta a mess and so sad. We were down to 3 I think at that point. So we decided to order another 20. We did great and kept them on the back porch this time to stay away from Charlie. One night it was warmer so I left the cover off the kiddie pool. Well we think Mr. Raccoon decided he needed some chickens. Awful. So after that we were down to 5 chickens :(. Yes that would be 40 down to 5. Awful learning curve but it is what it is.
Time for concrete!!!
